Join us at Juniper Tree Market to learn some intermediate skills of watercolor with Kelly Murphy!

Friday, March 24, 2023 from 6pm - 8pm

In this class, we will explore more techniques that enhance watercolor effects. These intermediate-level techniques will make use of additives and masking to push the depth of your watercolor creations further. We will also explore the use of different papers to experiment with the many different looks of watercolor.

  1. Table Salt is used to create texture in watercolors as they dry.
  2. Rubbing Alcohol disperses paint and creates interesting shapes and watermarks
  3. Masking provides a chance to preserve the white of the paper, revealing crisp white areas that add to the contrast of the composition.
  4. Tree-less synthetic paper provides a slick surface that allows for many times reworking of the watercolor painting.

  • All supplies provided and yours to keep

  • Leave with two beautiful watercolor pictures (and a practice sheet)

The Instructor, Kelly Murphy!
Kelly is a local artist and muralist in Dripping Springs.  Her murals can be found around town and in Austin. She is going to be starting a mural at Barton Creek Square Mall soon, which will be her third mural at the Mall.  She also has a mural on S. Congress.  She’s passionate about painting, creating, and inspiring others to try new things.  She loves spending time with her kids and can be seen on weekends with art supplies spread out on the table while eating breakfast together.  Some of her favorite subjects to paint are ones that are found around the Texas Hill Country and include donkeys and longhorns.   In her free time, Kelly is working on a Ph.D. in psychology.
